This article provides information on the compatibility of FogBugz with various Operating Systems (OS) and recommendations for the FogBugz setup. It also provides information on the IIS configuration.
FogBugz For Your Server
Our recommended setup is Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. FogBugz works on Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2016, but we do not support it officially in the current version.
FogBugz On Site and Manuscript On Premises
The recommended setup for FogBugz On Site V8.15.x and Manuscript On Premises V8.21.x is Windows Server 2012R2 and SQL Server 2012. Still, you can also install it on Windows Server 2016 by issuing some minor adjustments.
FogBugz On Premises
For FogBugz On Premises V8.22.35 and above, our recommended setup is Windows Server 2016 and SQL Server 2017.
Generally speaking, installing FogBugz on Windows Server 2012 or 2016 is a smooth experience. Most of the issues are experienced in configuring IIS properly.
IIS Configuration Details
Please see the process for installing IIS below.
In IIS, install the following roles:
Common HTTP Features (all recommended)
Application Development (all recommended except CGI (Please see this Microsoft Developer Network article.))
Please note that it is paramount to enable ASP.NET 3.5 for the system to work. In modern Windows OS, this is a "legacy" setting that needs to be enabled.
Health and Diagnostics (all recommended)
Security > Request Filtering (mandatory)
Performance (Static Content Compression required)
Management Tools (IIS Management Console and IIS 6 Management Compatibility required)
Navigate to Server Manager > Features.
Under .NET Framework 3.5.1 Features, install .NET Framework 3.5.1.
